IWC Schaffhausen presented the Portugieser Automatic 40, an automatic model distinguished by the iconic Portugieser style with small seconds at 6 o’clock, but with a compact diameter of 40 mm. However, the innovations of the Portugieser Automatic do not end there: in fact, IWC has simultaneously launched two new versions of the Portugieser Automatic with a diameter of 42 mm, one of which is distinguished by the nautical design elements of the Boutique Editions. The dial, with its clean and tidy style, presents the small seconds at 6 o’clock. The first reference of the Portuguese (the Reference 325) was produced by the Maison in the late 1930s and the same design elements then appeared almost unchanged in the subsequent editions. Inside the Portugieser Automatic 40 (Ref. 3 583) beats the fake IWC Manufacture 82200 caliber. The robust automatic movement boasts a Pellaton winding system, with components produced in wear-resistant ceramic, which guarantees a power reserve of 60 hours. Finally, the sapphire crystal caseback offers a complete view of the movement with its decorations. Four versions are available in 18K red gold or steel. The steel models are equipped with the new butterfly folding clasp which makes them particularly comfortable to wear. The straps are all in Santoni alligator, available (depending on the model) in blue, black or brown.
I wrote above about the classic Portugieser Automatic with a 42 mm case. The small seconds and the power reserve indication face each other at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock. A new model features the design elements of the Boutique Editions, which wink at the nautical world and navigation, with 18-karat red gold case and blue dial (the strap is in blue alligator by Santoni), while a second model has been declined in steel with a beautiful burgundy dial and black alligator strap. Both watches are powered by the IWC Manufacture Caliber 52010 with Pellaton winding system and virtually wear-resistant zirconium oxide ceramic components. Thanks to its slightly larger dimensions, the movement can accommodate two barrels which guarantee a power reserve of 7 days. Also in this model it is possible to admire the decoration of the movement through the sapphire crystal caseback.
