TAG Heuer proposes the Autavia as a complete collection, with a range of models that, in addition to being inspired by the original models of the 1960s, boast the same robustness and reliability that characterized the original Autavia watches produced in the 1960s. From 1933 to 1957 the Autavia was a dashboard timekeping tool used on racing cars and airplanes (its very name is in fact the combination of automobile and aviation). After production of the Autavia on-board timepiece ceased, the name was still available and then CEO Jack Heuer decided to use it for the wrist chronograph that the Swiss watch manufacturer launched in 1962. Instantly recognizable, this innovative new timepiece encapsulated the energy and frenzy of rally racing and was readable in all conditions. Popular with racing enthusiasts and the armed forces all over the world, the watch enjoyed great success and an excellent reputation until its production stopped in 1985. The smoked dial, with a date window at 6 o’clock, is available in black, gray or blue. The power reserve is about 38 hours and water resistance is guaranteed up to 100 meters (10 bar). Bold in bronze
In addition to the 5 Autavia only time models in stainless steel, TAG Heuer presented two other bronze versions. The 42mm bronze case timepieces sport a green or brown smoked dial with a bi-directional rotating black or brown ceramic bezel. The model with a brown dial and a brown ceramic bezel comes with a brown leather strap, while the model with a green dial and a black ceramic bezel comes with a khaki leather strap. The caseback of these watches, which bears the engraving of a propeller and a tire in homage to the automotive and aviation tradition that inspired the series, is made of titanium.
