The Big Jim of the collection debuted with a new in-house caliber 3230, a movement that also drives the new Submariner as well as the 36 mm Oyster Perpetuals. It is equipped with all the latest features / patents such as the Chonergy escapement, an evolution of the classic Swiss anchor escapement and is characterized by the inversion of the length ratios between the teeth of the escape wheel and the anchor levers.
Both are made of nickel-phosphorus to be insensitive to magnetic interference. According to Rolex, the Chronergy escapement is 15% more accurate than a traditional escapement.
The movement also includes the latest version of the blue Parachrom hairspring, produced internally in an exclusive paramagnetic alloy which in the event of a crash makes it up to ten times more precise than a traditional hairspring. The regulating organ is mounted on the Paraflex shockproof device which guarantees excellent shock resistance to the movement.
Caliber 3230 is powered by an automatic winding module with a Perpetual rotor. Thanks to the new barrel architecture and the optimal escapement efficiency, the movement has a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.
