In 1904 Louis Cartier specially created a watch to allow his aviator friend Alberto Santos-Dumont to read the time in flight. The first men’s wrist model in history immediately conquered enthusiasts for its design and square bezel with visible screws. This year Cartier celebrates the Santos-Dumont XL with a series of three limited edition engraved timepieces and an exclusive model proposed in a precious box set in a limited edition of 30 pieces, all powered by the 430 MC manual winding mechanical movement. The Santos-Dumont XL watch is characterized by completely revisited design and proportions. The iconic design of the Santos-Dumont replica watches is sublimated in the extra-large version. The change in proportions between this model and the previous ones is clearly visible on the wrist: the wider dial is a real concentrate of style, however it can also be worn by unimportant wrists. However, the transformation into XL does not affect the thinness of the case, which remains unchanged, nor the aesthetics of a model with an unmistakable style, from the sword-shaped hands to the pearly winding crown, from the sunray-effect satin dial to the caseback on which the initials are engraved.
