A perfectly aged OMEGA Speedmaster, the OMEGA Speedmaster CK2915-1, sold for a record 3,115,500 Swiss francs (approximately 2.95 million euros) at the Phillips Auction House in Geneva, far exceeding the price auction price estimated at between 80,000 and 120,000 Swiss francs. The extraordinary chronograph was among the first batches of Speedmasters released in 1957 as part of the “Trilogy”, the brand’s professional watches, which also included the Seamaster 300 and the Railmaster. Collectables are usually kept safe for decades; this extraordinary replica OMEGA, on the other hand, has been worn regularly, often in full sunlight, resulting in a unique “tropical” dial that has aged to a milky chocolate hue. The brown tone is incredibly even. In addition, the luminous material on both the dial and the hands has aged at the same pace, giving the display an attractive gold tone. This color uniformity also confirms that the watch has not undergone any significant maintenance. The first generation model, reference CK 2915, is considered by collectors as “the grail”. It was the first chronograph to feature a tachymeter scale on the bezel, rather than the dial, and the first Speedmaster to draw its strength from the iconic caliber 321, an extremely robust and reliable movement. In addition to the watch, the new proud owner received an OMEGA “Extract from the Archives” confirming the production of the current watch on November 22, 1957 and the original product documentation.
