TAG Heuer, to celebrate its 160th anniversary (in 1860 Edouard Heuer founded the Swiss Manufacture, at the time known as Heuer, in Saint-Imier, Switzerland), is currently presenting the replica TAG Heuer Carrera 160 Years Silver Limited Edition. The famous 1964 monochromatic silver dial model, with its three blued subdials and silver starburst dial, is the ideal choice to celebrate the brand’s 160th anniversary. The new stainless steel chronograph features many of the distinctive features of its predecessor in the design, such as the beautiful dial, case and polished pushers. However, the shape is slightly different and the watch currently measures 39 mm instead of the original 36 mm. Given the production differences of the two movements, the Valjoux 72 from 1963 and today’s Heuer 02, the permanent seconds indicator is positioned at 6 o’clock instead of 9 o’clock. A further novelty compared to the original is the shape of the central hour and minute hands, now faceted and coated with SuperLuminova® in beige color. The unmistakable Carrera name and TAG Heuer shield are printed on the dial, protected by a domed sapphire crystal that gives the watch a retro look and evokes the original Heuer Carrera. Presented with a black alligator leather strap, this model is limited as I wrote above to 1 860 pieces: a reference to the founding year of TAG Heuer. In addition, the words “One of 1860” and “LIMITED EDITION” are engraved on the caseback. The redesigned oscillating weight, visible through the screwed sapphire crystal, is embellished with a lacquered engraving that distinguishes the timepiece as a celebratory edition.
